My apartment is small and mostly undecorated. I have a mini couch. I have a bed.
I’m not sure why decorating seems so daunting – even though I know I can always take things down, move them around, I am SO reluctant to buy furniture or hang up pictures.
It makes for a pretty spartan existence.
BUT! Alex and I did a craft project a few weeks ago. We were inspired by Pinterest.
We set up a workspace in Alex’s basement, and mod podged our way to map success.
And yesterday I finally hung up my finished product.
Inspired by my crooked hanging skills, I decided to also hang up some curtains I bought about a year ago.
Yep, these have been hiding under my bed for almost a year. I’m afraid the wild cat will climb them. But I suppose it doesn’t hurt to try it out.
I think that’s the problem with home decor – I don’t want to let myself make mistakes. This is really silly, because it’s not that terrible to say, “oh no, that looks awful!” or “I’ll move this over here now.” I’m not sure why I got it into my head I have to get it perfect right out of the gate – and something usually looks better than nothing!
Here’s to home improvements, little by little.
Sometimes happy moments surprise you. You can’t plan for it, and you certainly can’t expect it. Sometimes a weeknight is as special as a big event.
Crooked picture, 2 drinks in, under clear skies, a big moon and strings of lights.
An evening spent with a friend, with a fire by my feet and a glass of wine in my hand. Makes me happy.
Happiness at home and away.
Up early, in time to make coffee. That’s how I like to start my day, with sun shining right in my face and a wild little cat curled up by my feet.
Measure out my Dunkin’ Donuts coffee and boil water.
Speaking of boiling water, you can’t go wrong with oatmeal and fruit.
But this morning is a little out of my routine. I spent most of it packing up for my trip to St. Louis!
I do ❤ my stuff.
I’m so excited for this weekend – can’t wait to see JB and CH get married! Updates from the midwest soon!
Around this house, we’re getting ready for cold weather.
Plaid flannel sheets are on the bed.
Striped flannel pants are on my person. And my toes are unpainted.
And this picture has nothing to do with fall. My cat just attacked my face and phone while I was picture taking. He loves me a lot.
I’m finally using a Living Social deal I bought almost a year ago – hot yoga!
The class was good – but it’s a bus ride away so I’ve been putting it off.
Especially since I do things like this:
Get ready to go. Take out the trash. Walk to the bus stop. Board the bus. Begin to worry that I forgot to blow out the candle I lit that morning and will therefore burn my cat down. Get off the bus. Walk across the street. Board the next bus back to my house. Walk up the four flights of stairs to my apartment.
The candle is not lit.
So, I hopped another bus back downtown and went to calm my mind with some hot hot yoga. Clearly I needed it.
And then I need a huge salad!
Yum TOWN. I love purple cabbage. Weirdo right?
Good Saturday so far. Going to the grocery store now and then maybe a movie later.
Not too much. I’m up early and drinking coffee this morning.
There are a lot of lovely dawns here. Seattle’s clouds aren’t as fluffy and lovely as the Midwest’s but they’re pretty nice. I try to spend a few minutes on the deck every morning taking in the view.
I finally bought some furniture. I’m too darn old to live out of paper bags and cardboard boxes.
I mean, let’s get serious, I’m still sitting on the mini-couch. But it’s not the floor! Improvements come slowly.
This creature is still wild. He got his head stuck in a Mason jar the other day. It was almost as cute as Maru.
This cat is great.
He’s resting after a long day of helping me build Ikea furniture. He hid a lot of screws under the bed. It was a like a scavenger hunt.
It’s a tiring life, being a cat.
